Holy Water (Tirta)

Sprinkling of Holy Water (Tirta)
A priest sprinkles holy water over the head and hands as part of the blessing ceremony. In Balinese Hindu tradition, Tirta is considered sacred and is used for spiritual purification. The blessing represents the cleansing of negative thoughts and influences, helping to bring greater balance and harmony to the body, mind, and soul.
Drinking Holy Water
We drink the holy water three times as part of the purification ritual. Each sip is taken mindfully, symbolizing the cleansing of the inner self, clearing negative thoughts, and bringing greater clarity and balance to the mind and spirit.

Applying Bija (Holy Rice)
After the water blessing, the priest applies Bija, small grains of uncooked rice, to the forehead and throat. This sacred part of the ceremony symbolizes receiving divine blessings, positive energy, and spiritual balance. The Bija also serves as a reminder to maintain pure thoughts, words, and intentions after the ritual.
Placing Rice on the Forehead and Chest
The grains placed on the forehead represent an awakened and clear mind, while the rice on the chest symbolizes a pure and open heart. A few grains may also be eaten as part of the ritual, representing the acceptance of blessings and positive energy within oneself.
